ZERO.ID – Chinese President Accepts “Serious Situation” for #Coronavirus. Chinese President Xi Jinping said today that his country is facing a “serious situation and rapid spread” of the pneumonia epidemic due to a new coronavirus infection and decided to create a special group to handle the “crisis” of the infection.

“At the meeting it was decided that the Central Committee of the Party established a leading group for the response to the epidemic and carried out its work under the direction of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China,” said a statement disseminated by the agency by Xinhua.

After chairing the meeting on Saturday, the president stressed that all “the departments must put the life and health of people first, formulate comprehensive plans […] to stop with determination the spread of the epidemic.”

He also asked the Wuhan region, where the virus originated, “to adopt stricter measures, prevent internal proliferation by strengthening” the isolation and treatment of all patients “, and even exported products.

Similarly, he joined the call of various Chinese regions to “reduce large-scale public events,” in reference to the Spring Festival.

After a meeting of the Chinese Communist Party, the calls for collaboration of “party committees and governments at different levels” were reiterated to make adequate plans to stop the infection.

The meeting emphasized the need to announce in a “fast, accurate, open and transparent manner the epidemic situation and respond to national and foreign concerns”

The Chinese health authorities confirmed on Saturday the death of 41 people and 1,383 confirmed worldwide cases of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus (2019-nCoV), including 237 under critical conditions.

The official reports have recently been pointed out by national experts as the background is negative for China, so their data is taken with caution.

During the SARS epidemic between 2002 and 2003, the World Trade Organization criticized the Chinese government for having taken the alert and wanted to hide the scale of the epidemic.

Even the possible origin of the virus that points to a market for exotic animals, could exhibit the lack of controls by the authorities on illegal trade in species.
